Mr. Chen Qigang is a graduate from the Central Conservatory of Music (Composition Department) and earned a Masters at the Sorbonne, Paris. His pieces have premiered and won accolades in Canada, France, England, The Netherlands, and China. In 2000, he composed the four-act ballet Raise the Red Lantern with film director Zhang Yimou (based on the director’s film of the same name). Other works include: Poème Lyrique II (2001); Wu Xing (Five Elements), for orchestra (UK, 2001); Un Temps Disparu for orchestra and erhu (Montreal, 2002); Iris Dévoilée (Beijing Music festival, 2002). In 2003, Virgin Classics produced an album of Mr. Chen’s symphonic works.
